Become a Fiscally Sponsored Project

Fiscal sponsorship is a practice that has evolved as an effective and efficient means of starting new non-profit initiatives, delivering public services, and seeding social movements. Butte Environmental Council is able to provide a legal framework for social ventures, enable the movement of resources from funders and donors to social ventures, activities, ideas, and organizations that share the fiscal sponsor’s mission, and enable organizations to grow and scale while focusing on their mission.

Services provided under our 501(c)(3) umbrella: tax exempt status and being able to accept tax-deductible donations, banking and reimbursement, marketing on BEC’s communication platforms, and access to BEC’s Board Room and office equipment.

In order to be your project’s administrative wing, we ask for a 10% fee of your project’s revenue. Typical, fully-fledged non-profits spend on average 15 to 40% of their revenue on administrative costs.

To apply to become a fiscally sponsored project, please email to staff@becnet.org:

  1. A cover letter that explains your planned list of activities and how they relate to BEC’s mission, and

  2. A drafted budget that lists your project’s potential sources of income as well as potential expenses.
