Oak Way Community Garden
BEC manages the Oak Way Community Garden, located at 8th Ave & Highway 32 (Nord), and adjacent to the Oak Way Community Park. The garden has 40 plots on a half-acre that serves about 20 families at any given time. Gardeners grow their choosing of food, flowers, medicine, and/or fiber. We host Drop in the Bucket Composting Service to recycle food scraps from the community and produce rich composted material on site. We believe getting our hands dirty has the power to heal hearts and minds, and we invite you to participate in this community project.
Plots are leased on a yearly basis with the option to renew in February of each year. Plot fees are used to cover the cost of water. Each plot has a spigot, but gardeners are responsible for providing their own irrigation system (i.e. drip or hose). There is also compost system on site, so gardeners have the option compost food scraps and vegetation to help us create nutrient rich soil, in which gardeners can use in their plots. There is also a tool library for gardeners to utilize while out in the garden.
We have plots available NOW! You can join the garden community today.
If you are interested in leasing a plot at the garden, please call the BEC office at (530)891-6424 or email the Garden Manager at steward@becnet.org
